altctineAction! Online Short Film Festival for Balkan filmmakers returns again for the 4th year! Packed with new films, great awards and more unique opportunities!
altcineAction! has become THE online meeting place for young and talented filmmakers from the Balkans. If you are from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo*, F.Y.R.O.M, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia or Turkey, join the action and participate with your film.
altcineAction! has already contributed to the production of several successful films. Who knows? Your next co-production might just be around the corner!
Eligibility quiz:
• Have I directed no more than one feature film?
• Does my film already have English Subs?
• Is the runtime up to 15 minutes?
• Am I ready to win and thrive?
If you answered YES to the above questions, all you have to do is get your masterpiece ready, stay alert and enter the race once the submission period opens! Remember that the capacity of the festival is still 480 minutes and submissions are accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
So far, during the last 3 years of its activities, altcineAction! has brought together 145 films from 13 Balkan countries in its online library and counts more than 6200 registered users, while continuing to offer great prizes, sponsored by top companies and institutions in the audiovisual sector. The festival aids film production and co-production in the Balkans by putting the spotlight on the next generation of directors, while at the same time transforming young audio-visual literate surfers into engaged audiences and creating sustainable communities.

All altcineAction! prizes are of a highly educational and career-evolving nature. The three major prizes, exclusively based on the audiences’ votes and critiques, as well as altcine’s choice, the “Alida Dimitriou Award”, offer services for the winners’ next film sponsored by top film companies. Specialist juries award two more prizes for photography and editing offering professional software. This year, our most innovative award, the Best Critic Award, has expanded and become a larger action through the 5C project supported by Creative Europe – MEDIA programme of the European Union.

Critical spirit is international! Wherever you are from, you have the chance to choose altcineAction!’s winners! By voting and writing film reviews, you automatically enter the contest for our brand new action “the 5C project”. Supported by Creative Europe – MEDIA Program of the European Union, the 5C allows five emerging critics to join the Cine-Caravan on a journey through the Balkans. If you are one of the lucky five, you will have the opportunity to perfect your writing under the guidance of established professionals and academics, travel to Athens, Split, Cetate and Tirana and share your experiences through digital media. So start practicing your typing skills, and be ready to start voting once the submission period opens!
Remember, the 4th altcineAction! starts on 1 December and finishes in mid-January. An entire month and a half of viewing films and voting! After all, winter is the best time for watching films online while having a cup of delicious hot chocolate or a glass of red wine!
